Here are photos of decorations around town and from the Ocean Springs parade on February 7. The Mardi Gras party atmosphere starts here around late January. Haven't seen anyone topless. But with all the beads you collect, it sort of works as a halter top.
My brown bag says, "Hope your Tuesday is Phat, like yo Momma."

Elvis is alive!!

A slight historical correction from Karen Miniotis:
Mardi Gras isn't big in MS becauseit's close to NOLA, but sort of the other way around. The 1st MardiGras celebration was in Mobile, AL before NOLA was even founded (OceanSprings is older than New Orleans, too; it was the capital of'Louissienne')... New Orleans parades just got bigger and are the bestknown to tourists. I like to think of Carnival as the greatestcontribution (worldwide) of the Roman Catholic Church (it beats theCrusades and the Inquisition hands down!) Glad to know you enjoyed the holiday; there's a closeted bead whore in us all!
*ps-she's right! i was all over those beads!*
